A Manifesto Autonomous.

1: We refuse to be beholden to the cultural tomb that pop/rock/punk has become. The sex pistols and the ramones are the beatles and rolling stones are black flag and minor threat are bob dylan and the doors are sonic youth and fugazi are guns and roses and metallica are crass and discharge. we will glean from the past but will not be indebted to it. we forge our weapons with the tools of history and the rancor of today.

2: The banner we wave of autonomy will be one of collaboration. Artistic, emotional, and ephemeral.

3: Performance will be just that. Not solely soapbox or platform. Not solely catharsis or solipsism. As a showcase for the ideas created through the collaborative processes performances will neither be defining of, nor be defined by, us.

4: Uniformity is to be a symbol of cohesion. It is not a mark of exclusion or exclusivity. It is a visual reminder and identifier of those persons who have contributed to the performance or artist creation.

5: Our politics are each our own. Though as a unit we will express a representation of individual ideas and beliefs through a singular means, this is only a representation of a loose collection of personal stances. No one idea belongs to all, all do not subscribe to each specific idea.

6: A measure of lightheartedness and frivolity will always be applied to all that we do. While nothing is sacred, nothing is dire.

7: All decisions are to be contradicted. All proclamations to be reversed. If there was to be a god or master, hypocrisy would be its name.

8: This is growth and evolution. This is destruction and ruination. This is experience.

9: this is not absolvement

11: we care because we don't. We don't because we do.

12: what we want is who we are.

Announced Performances #31 - #33

#31 - 12/9 @ Skihaus - Carbondale, IL
w/ Cruddy (Austin), Wei Zhongle, Miami Dolphins (MPLS)

#32 - 12/10 @ El Lenador - St. Louis, MO

#33 - 12/15 @ Tres Hombres - Carbondale, IL
             w/ Kid Tiger

We're quite excited to be able to do a weekend of shows with our friends Cruddy from Austin, Tx. On top of that, Doom Town and Shaved Women happen to be two of the best punk bands in the midwest right now. That weekend promises to be filled with the loudest of revelry. Our show with Kid Tiger will be the first time we've performed at Tres Hombres, and the first time with our good friends Kid Tiger. If you have not seen them yet, Kid Tiger is one of the most interesting and engaging bands in Carbondale right now. Beautiful soaring vocals, intricate rhythms, and a style of music that defies genres.

Announced Performance #30 - 11/2/11

We have the strange luck of opening for The Smoking Popes at The Hangar 9 on Wednesday, November 2nd. Also playing are our good friends The Copyrights. This will mostly likely be the last time we play some of our older material for a while as we have been writing a lot of new music.

Audio Documentation.

As the songwriting continues at a surprising pace, we are currently planning on recording for a 7" and an LP in November here in Carbondale. While the recording time is certain, the release dates for the recordings are not. We are hoping to gain some assistance in disseminating the music beyond the scope of which we have been so far.

If anyone has any recommendations as to labels, groups, or individuals who may be interested in combining efforts with us in having our music released and/or distributed, please feel free to offer us your suggestions.

Audio Dissemination: Tape Available For Download.

Our 8-song demo tape is now available for download (pay what you feel it is worth to you) at our Bandcamp page. We still have physical copies of the tape available for mail order, which come with a lyric sheet/mini poster and whatever various bits of aesthetic propaganda we have laying about.

We apologize for it taking so long to become downloadable, but as much as we like to embrace new aspects of technology we tend to know very little about how to fully use them.

Twentieth Announced Performance.

On returning from our excursion through the western half of the U.S. we will be performing for the first time at Lost Cross. This is long overdue. Joining us will be Chicago's incredible pop-punk powerhouse This Is My Fist and Chicago's equally impressive (and partially ex-Carbondale) hardcore outfit Manipulation. This will also be the Carbondale debut of Shark Week, who are our neighbors in the near city of Paducah, KY.

Please come and support the touring bands, as they are travelling across the country. We will be asking for a $5 donation to help assuage the increasing cost of gas.

A Response To The Events Of This Evening.

How often we forget that celebrating death is not the same as celebrating life. Let's never confuse justice with justification.

America would do well with more humility and less high-fives.

Announcement of Change.

This evening Matthew announced that he will no longer be an active, full-time member of Autonomy. The local shows that we have announced through June will be his last performances as a live, full-time guitarist. We very much appreciate all that he's done for the group over the past 9 months and look forward to continuing our collaboration with him to whatever degree he chooses.

Taking Matthew's full-time position on the guitar will be Taylor Sprehe. Taylor has already been working with us as a non-live guitarist for nearly a month; he will be the guitarist on our upcoming west coast tour.

In Solidarity With Our Friends in Wisconsin.

“We have long rested comfortably in this country upon the assumption that because our form of government was democratic, it was therefore automatically producing democratic results. Now, there is nothing mysteriously potent about the forms and names of democratic institutions that should make them self-operative. Tyranny and oppression are just as possible under democratic forms as under any other. We are slow to realize that democracy is a life; and involves continual struggle. It is only as those of every generation who love democracy resist with all their might the encroachments of its enemies that the ideals of representative government can even be nearly approximated.” - "Fighting" Bob La Folette
